What is Change Makers?

Change Makers is run by the Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire Partnership and currently has over 200 young people aged 11-19 who feedback to CSWP staff about its work.

Organisers are appealing for other young people to join up to have a say on how services, such as Connexions, are run.

Craig Smith, from Change Makers, said: “if a service has been set up for young people it is only right that the young people it caters for are given some decision-making powers and have a say on how it is run.

“Change Makers is a positive way for them to get involved with issues that affect them whilst boosting their own self confidence and skills at the same time.

“The young people can be involved as little or as much as they like and can take part in a wide range of events, from a simple survey, to interviewing staff, to making decisions on company policy and attending board meetings.

meeting“Members get training on subjects including interviewing people, negotiation skills and contribute towards company policies and publications – we also have lots of fun events and the group gets to plan an annual trip.

“To date, Change Makers members have already played an important role on the development of the Youth Charter, which states young people’s rights when accessing services set up for them which we will soon be re-launching.”

Application forms for Change Makers can be picked up in all Connexions offices in schools and at One Stop Shops throughout Coventry and Warwickshire.
