Why let drink decide?
'Why let drink decide?' is a nationwide campaign to help educate young people on alcohol and its consumption.
If you are going to have the occasional drink, you need to be smart about it. You need to know what you’re doing and keep your wits about you. When you’re drunk you might do things you wouldn't’t normally do and say things you wouldn't’t normally say. What’s worse, is that drinking too much can leave you vulnerable.
The Facts About Youth Drinking
- Every year, 10,000 young people aged 11-17 are admitted to hospital as a result of drinking. Over half of these - 6,000 children, in fact - are under 16.
- Young people who drink regularly are twice as likely to miss school and get poor grades. They are also more likely to get a criminal record.
- The earlier someone starts drinking, the more likely their life will be shortened.
- One in three teenagers said they have been a passenger in a friend's car after the driver had drunk too much alcohol.
