Exam/Results time

Exam Result dates:

A Levels - 19th August 2010

GCSE - 24th August 2010

Exam time can be very stressful but with a bit of careful planning you can make things a little bit easier for yourself.

  • create a revision timetable
  • make your books, notes and essays user-friendly, by using headings, highlighting key points and using revision cards
  • go through past exam papers
  • try revising with a friend - explaining information to them will help you to remember the information yourself
  • take plenty of breaks and give yourself some time each day to relax
  • make sure you get lots of sleep and eat well
  • ask Teachers, Connexions Personal Advisers and Parents for help if you don't understand something

ChildLine the confidential helpline for young people, has released a video to remind young people that exams don't need to be stressful.  It's creators hope the video will encourage thousands of students to beat exam stress by being well prepared.  The clip features pupils seated in rows in a large hall, and then unusually, they break out into a choreographed Mexican waveclick here to watch the video.

UCAS Clearing is a service available between July and September, but for most people it is used immediately after the exam results are published.  It helps applicants who have not secured a place at university or college (for whatever reason) to find vacancies on higher education courses.

The Department for Children, School and Families (DCSF) provides a free national helpline for students, parents and advisers.  They offer expert independent information and advice on applying for university or college, taking time out, or choosing to enter employment.  All calls are dealt with in confidence by specially trained advisers who have access to an on-line database provided by UCAS, which will provide them with up to the minute information on course availability.  Calls are free from a landline but mobile phone charges will vary.
