Business and Industry in schools

Local employers are really keen to get involved with schools.  They want to help make sure that teaching is relevant to the world of work and that young people leave education with skills and talents that are needed to make sure the country is competitive in the global economy.

Your Connexions PA will work with teachers and other school staff to bring a range of activities into the classroom.  These could be activities linked to teaching specific subjects or it could be special events such as industry days, enterprise challenges, mock interviews and visits to companies or employers coming into school or college to meet you.  Each year there are local events so that employers and training providers can meet students and parents to show what’s on offer – Personal Advisers are able to tell you what courses and subjects are best for the areas that interest you.  Education-Business activities are relevant to all young people whether your aim is higher education, training through work or if you don’t know yet.  You can benefit whatever career ideas you may have and if you haven’t made your mind up yet you will begin to understand how many skills and abilities are relevant to all areas of work.

The programme of activities will be different in each school and college.  Some may be linked to areas such as Diplomas, others will be relevant to everyone in a year group, others may be arranged for small groups.

Activities are advertised by your school or college but if you can think of a particular activity that you think should be offered you can either suggest it to your Connexions Personal Adviser in school or e-mail the idea to info@iyss.org.uk
