Coventry Green Scheme

Who is it for?

This transport scheme is for individuals of employable age who live in Coventry and have no transport to get to:

  • full time employment
  • apprenticeship
  • education

What does it do?
The scheme provides a travel plan.  If, as a result, it is found that there is no suitable public transport available, there is the possibility of the loan/purchase of a bicycle or electric bike.

The bicycles are hybrids and are lighter weight than mountain bikes.  They are issued with full safety kit, cycle routes and a highway code.

The scheme is open to:

  • 6th formers who need a bike to access their course
  • college/university students who need travel support to access provision
  • those on E2E or apprenticeships
  • those accessing full or part time employment
  • those accessing community training schemes

Conditions of eligibility:

Applicants must:

  • live in Coventry
  • have a distance to travel which is achievable on a cycle or electric bike
  • have difficulties with public or private access to transport
  • have no health conditions which would prevent them from using a cycle for travel

Costs - Option 1

  • £30 non-refundable deposit
  • a monthly payment of £10 towards the upkeep of the cycle, or £30 a month towards the electric bike - this includes servicing and normal wear and tear repairs
  • For bicycles only: At the end of 12 months the bike will be transferred to the ownership of the user.  Should the user leave the scheme earlier than 12 months, they will be given the option to buy the bike at the remaining cost, or return it to the scheme.

Costs - Option 2 ( for bicycles only )

  • £30 non-refundable deposit
  • The bicycle would be on loan for 12 months during which the client saves up to buy their own bicycle
