If you are interested in 'taking on' a young person, our Employer Team will be very pleased to discuss your options and if you are new to this area of recruitment they will give you the benefit of their knowledge built up over time working with young people in the labour market in their locality.
Our vacancy service if free, you can contact us through our online enquiry form
To summarise the options:
- You could employ a young person and offer them training - this could be your own in-house courses or a part-time NVQ course, for example at a local college.
- You could could employ a young person and use the Apprenticeship structure organised by the local Learning and Skills Council (LSC)
- You could employ a young person but not offer them any formal training
- You could act as an employer "placement" for a young person who is preparing to enter the labour market through E2E (entry to employment)
We can put you in touch with local learning providers who can explain more about the implications for you about the and E2E structures.
The Learning and Skills Council have also set up the www.apprenticeships.org.uk website to support young people, their parents and employers to find out more about Apprenticeships - there is a whole section of useful information aimed at employers.
Young people aged 16-18 who are employed, not receiving any training and do not have NVQ level 2 qualifications or 4 A-C GCSE's are legally entitled to Time off for Study to help them achieve level 2. For more information about this go to www.direct.gov.uk
