Health and Safety
We should all take responsibility for our own well-being and safety. Don't make the mistake of assuming "it won't happen to me". It's might be stating the obvious but being safe is about:
- being careful
- avoiding risks
- being in control
-
trusting your instincts
Where can I find information on safety?
The Suzy Lamplugh Trust is a leading authority on personal safety. The trust offers free advice and provides lots of literature on all aspects of safety.
www.thinkuknow.co.uk (a website to help young people stay safe online)
www.keepitsafe.biz - a website full of fun ways about how you can keep you and your valuables safe.
Did you know you can register all your gadgets free of charge at www.immobilise.com - it allows you to register all your possessions such as mobile phones, MP3 players, laptops and computers on a national database which is checked by police and many lost property offices. If you become a victim of theft or lose your gadgets, the police and other organisations are more likely to return your items if they are registered.
Internet safety
Beware of scams such as email spoofing and phishing, which take place over the internet.
Email spoofing is when an email sender gives a false identity so when you reply your response goes to a different address meaning you could possibly give personal information to a stranger.
Phising is when someone attempts to get personal information such as user names or passwords by pretending to be an official organisation eg a bank or building society. Remember - banks will never ask for personal details via an email so always assume the email is a fake
