Drugs
Drugs fall into two categories, legal and illegal.
Legal drugs are medicinal ones prescribed by a doctor or available over the counter at a pharmacy.
Illegal drugs are substances such as heroin, cocaine, speed, ecstasy and cannabis which are harmful and addictive, and are sold illegally. Tobacco is also illegal for those under 18 years of age.
Note
: Cannabis has been reclassified and is now a Class B drug, and carries the same penalties for possession as other drugs in this category, e.g. speed. Any young person aged between 10 and 17 caught with even a small amount of cannabis will be either arrested or referred to a Youth Offending Team. Those aged over 18 will always be at risk of arrest.
