Alcohol
In Britain the legal age for purchasing alcohol is 18 years, although it's legal to drink beer or cider with a meal at the age of 16 years.
Lots of young people start drinking much younger than the legal age without realising the long term damage to their health. They might drink because they are bored, or want to be part of "the crowd". Sometimes, even if you don't want to drink, it's easier to join in than to say no to a drink, especially when you worry that your so-called friends will laugh at you. If you don't want a drink try and have the courage to say no. Real friends will respect you, and in some cases might even follow your example.
I think I may have a drink problem - what should I do?
Recognising that you have a problem and need help is the first step. If possible speak to someone you trust such as a parent, friend, Teacher or Adviser, or contact your own Doctor. If you find this difficult to do, visit one of the following websites for information and advice on how to get help.
